What It's Like to Work at Good Commerce

Have you ever wondered what it’s like working at a Marketing Agency? Perhaps you’re interested in a career in marketing and you’re considering if an agency is the route you want to take. Or perhaps you’ve seen our latest job posting and you’re wondering what we’re all about!

Let me tell you a little about myself, and my experience working at Good Commerce, Vancouver’s leading Shopify agency, as an Account Manager & Social Media Specialist. As someone who primarily worked in marketing and social media related fields for one company at a time, the idea of working at an agency was intimidating. However, I liked the variety of work and opportunities that an agency position offered. I felt that as someone early in my career, working at an agency would be a learning experience and overall beneficial, I started my job at Good Commerce over 6 months ago and never looked back.

Company Vision 

Good Commerce wants to be the go-to agency for Shopify web builds, online marketing, and digital products for companies across Canada. 

That’s a big goal, and that creates a team of go-getters with big aspirations and a can-do attitude! This also means we work in a relatively fast-paced environment where organization is of the utmost importance. 

This was intimidating, and a bit of a learning curve for me, but I quickly learned that the team is there to support you, and show you the best practices for managing your time and your clients. Having a team that is passionate and excited about their work also presents a lot of opportunities for you to share your ideas and grow as a person alongside the company.

Culture & Values 

At Good Commerce, we put our clients at the heart of everything we do. Having genuine care for our clients, and the best interest for their business is an important factor in our success.

Our team is full of passionate and extremely skilled people. We may work remotely, and manage our own accounts but I always have the support of my team should I need it. We connect weekly to update each other on our accounts, to call on the support of a team member for a specific task, or just to chat and catch up! Making Good Commerce a very collaborative work environment, and we have a lot of fun doing it! 

Management Practices 

Gabby, our founder, does a really great job of getting out of your way while encouraging and supporting you to level up. 

She doesn’t believe in micromanaging, which is nice for our team members. Instead, she offers check-ins, and ongoing support while allowing you to sit in the driver’s seat and decide what your preferred style of work is. Gabby does a great job of offering feedback and action items that will challenge you to grow in your specialized field.

Good Commerce believes in having a healthy work/life balance. We have flexible work hours (within reason,) so that we can get all of your work done in a timely manner and still be able to make that yoga class you’ve been looking forward to. Having the time and flexibility to fill up my own cup, and check off my personal to-do list allows me to show up to work every day excited and not stressed.

When I started at Good Commerce, it was my first agency job and it all felt overwhelming, like starting any job. However, Gabby and the team made me feel comfortable and supported every step of the way and continue to do so! We continue to work hard on internal processes to adapt to each person’s needs, and Gabby is always welcoming to new suggestions to make things better!
